This Award seeks to recognise an East African company that has made the most notable contribution to the EAC objectives of accelerating regional growth, creating wealth and employment and reducing poverty across the region. The judges will be looking for companies who have expanded their reach across the EAC region, with demonstrable impact on the EAC economies, be it in terms of employment, innovative solutions or creation of wealth. This award is open to all companies in the EAC.

BEST EAST AFRICAN COMPANY - MANUFACTURING

The Award seeks to recognise an East African company that has achieved notable success in any manufacturing sector. The judges will be looking for companies who have expanded their manufacturing bases across the EAC region, whose manufactured products are traded across the region, who can demonstrate market leadership across the EAC for their products and / or have strong brand recognition regionally. This award is open to companies of any size in the EAC region engaged in the manufacturing sector.

BEST EAST AFRICAN COMPANY – SERVICES

The Award seeks to recognise an East African company that has achieved notable success in any services sector. The judges will be looking for companies who have expanded their service industries across the EAC region, whose service products are exported across the region, whose service products have greatly influenced regional businesses and those with strong brand recognition regionally. This award is open to companies in the following service sectors - business (including professional services), communication (including media), distribution, education, finance, tourism and transport services.

BEST EAST AFRICAN COMPANY - SME

The Award seeks to recognise a Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) that has achieved notable success in its area of operation. The judges will be looking for companies who, despite their size, been able to take advantage of the opportunities brought about by the EAC through exporting of their products and services. This award is open to companies that employ between 1-10 persons and have an overall turnover of less than USD 100,000.

BEST EAST AFRICAN COMPANY- WOMAN OWNED ENTERPRISES

The Award seeks to recognise a woman owned business that has achieved notable success in its area of operation. The judges will be looking for companies who are women owned and have been able to take advantage of the opportunities brought about by the EAC through exporting of their products and services. This award is open to all Women Owned Businesses irrespective of their sizes.

BEST EAST AFRICAN COMPANY - GREEN ECONOMY

The Award seeks to recognise a company in any sector that demonstrates awareness and use of principles that promote a greener economy. The judges will be looking for companies in any area of operation that can demonstrate the use of more energy efficient technologies and practices; use of renewable energies, green waste management practices, including recycling, sustainable use of natural resources, environmental awareness and compliance as well as those that have put in places measures to reduce their carbon footprint.

BEST EAST AFRICAN COMPANY- CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Award seeks to recognise an East African company that demonstrates the best corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices.  The judges will be looking for companies that have gone beyond the profit motive to be socially responsible through building the communities they operate around, taking environmental issues beyond compliance issues and supporting broader social issues in the EAC as part of their CSR.  This award is open to all businesses in the EAC that have active CSR programmes.

BEST EAST AFRICAN COMPANY- INNOVATION

The Award seeks to recognise an East African company which has brought innovative products or practices that contribute to or enhance business across the EAC. The judges will be looking for products or practices that enable more efficient payments across the region; enable tracking of products or services across the region, allow for market information, for example on products availability and comparison of prices to be shared in a timely and cost effective manner, or enable more efficient reporting or resolution of NTBs, among others.  This award is open to all businesses in the EAC, irrespective of their sector.

The Award seeksto recognize an East African company that has achieved notable success in the Tourismand hospitality sector. The judges will be looking for companies who haveexpanded their products and services across the EAC. Particular attention willbe given to those companies that have introduced innovative products andservices targeting the EAC region and which portrays EAC as a single tourismdestination. This award is open to companies in the Tourism and hospitalityindustry, including hotels, tour and travel companies.

The Award seeks to recognize an East African company that has achieved notable success in the financial sector. The judges will be looking for companies who have expanded, integrated and / or exported their financial products across the EAC. This award is open to companies in the financial sector, including banking, insurance, micro-finance, financial investment companies, brokerage firms and mobile payments, among others.

The Award seeks to recognise an East African company that has achieved notable success in ensuring coverage of EAC issues. The judges will be looking for media companies that have expanded across the region and / or exported their products across the region. Particular attention will be given to media companies that have provided a regular platform for articulation and discussion of EAC issues across various mediums.

The Award seeks to recognise an East African company that has achieved notable success in the building and construction sector. The judges will be looking for companies who have expanded, integrated and / or exported their building and construction products and services across the EAC. This award is open to companies in this sector, including cement producers; steel companies, manufacturers of building materials such as tiles, among others.

The Award seeks to recognize an East African company that has achieved notable success in the extractive and mining sector. The judges will be looking for companies who have expanded, integrated and / or exported their mined products across the EAC. This award is open to companies in the oil and gas sector, cement companies, the minerals sector and other extractive industries.
