EABC TO STRENGTHEN THE POTENTIAL OF EAC MANUFACTURING SECTOR.
Manufacturing contributes just nine per cent to East Africa’s GDP, according to 2013 statistics from the EAC’s Department of Industrialization. This is way below the 25 per cent target set by the Partner States for 2032. Therefore, industrialization is at the very top of the agenda in any discourse about deeper economic integration.
EABC in collaboration with EAC organized the first East African Manufacturing Business Summit in 2015 themed “Unleashing the Manufacturing Potential in an Integrated East African Market” this arose from the concern that despite EAC value chains and markets stretching across boundaries, most policies and business networks tend to be still localized.
The first East African Manufacturing Business Summit in 2015 convened for the 1st time all stakeholders in manufacturing under one roof, this enabled policy dialogue on the regional manufacturing environment, Business 2 Business Networking, knowledge sharing on Best Practices in manufacturing. Industry Roundtables deliberated on: Agro Industry, Minerals, Cement & Steel, Pharmaceutical & Cosmetics, Chemicals & Plastics, Automotive, Machines & Electronics while Thematic Parallel Sessions on: Combatting Illicit Trade Technology & Innovations Industrial Skills, Standards, Finance and Investment Opportunities were held.
To reinforce the EAC Manufacturing sector potential and realize an Industrialized Economy, EABC is organizing the Second East African Manufacturing Business Summit that is scheduled to take place on 23rd - 25th May 2017 at Serena Hotel in Kigali, Rwanda.
