(EAC)\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.intracen.org\/news-events\/events\/global-sme-ministerial\">ITC<\/a> ,\u00a0East African\u00a0companies\u00a0can now access\u00a0consolidated\u00a0information tailored to their products and target markets without navigating multiple sources.<\/p><p>Certifications, sanitary rules, packaging standards, and labelling requirements can make it difficult for small businesses in East Africa to compete in export markets.<\/p><p>Together, these are known as\u00a0non-tariff\u00a0measures.\u00a0Knowing how to navigate them can turn\u00a0regulatory hurdles into opportunities.<\/p><p>The new\u00a0Non-Tariff Measures Self-Assessment Tool (NTM SAT)\u00a0is the first free global information hub dedicated to helping businesses understand and\u00a0comply with\u00a0non-tariff measures.<\/p><p>The tool was created by EU-EAC MARKUP II programme with\u00a0support from the European Union (EU) under the Global Gateway. The tool\u00a0focuses especially on health and safety requirements for food, and on\u00a0technical requirements for things like packaging and labelling.<\/p><p>The tool was launched during a breakout panel discussion at the East African Business and Investment Summit &amp; Expo 2026, held in Nairobi on 25 February 2026.\u00a0The session jointly organized with <a href=\"https:\/\/eabc-online.com\/\">East African Business Council<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kepsa.or.ke\/\">Kenya Private Sector Alliance<\/a> also showcased the MSME Financing Gateway which provides enterprises with access to financing needed to meet standards, upgrade production, and expand into regional and international markets.<\/p><p>Sagoh\u00a0Djete, Project Manager for Regional Cooperation \u2013 Infrastructure at the EU Delegation to Tanzania and the\u00a0EAC, underscored the importance of working\u00a0together\u00a0closely to advance regional integration, strengthen intra-African trade, and improve access to global markets.<\/p><\/div><h2 class=\"uk-h3 uk-scrollspy-inview\">A new approach\u00a0to regulatory transparency<\/h2><div class=\"uk-panel uk-text-large uk-margin uk-text-justify uk-scrollspy-inview\"><p>Built on the data of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.macmap.org\/\">ITC\u2019s Market Access Map<\/a>,\u00a0the tool\u00a0translates complex legal texts into clear, structured, and actionable guidance. Companies can now access consolidated\u00a0information tailored to their products and target markets without navigating multiple sources.<\/p><\/div><h2 class=\"uk-h3 uk-scrollspy-inview\">Core Features<\/h2><div class=\"uk-panel uk-text-large uk-margin uk-text-justify uk-scrollspy-inview\"><p>The platform combines three integrated functions:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Search: Identify import requirements applied to a specific product in a chosen export market.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Compare: Analyse and compare regulatory requirements particularly health and technical measures across markets or against international standards.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Self-assess: Conduct a step-by-step diagnostic to evaluate product compliance with detailed regulatory requirements and identify gaps before shipment.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/div><div class=\"uk-panel uk-text-large uk-margin uk-text-justify uk-scrollspy-inview\"><p>By integrating regulatory data with a practical self-diagnostic feature, the tool enables firms to move from information to implementation.<\/p><\/div><h2 class=\"uk-h3 uk-scrollspy-inview\">How does it improve\u00a0competitiveness and regional integration?<\/h2><div class=\"uk-panel uk-text-large uk-margin uk-text-justify uk-scrollspy-inview\"><p>For\u00a0small businesses, the NTM SAT reduces the time and cost\u00a0required\u00a0to
