SUMMARY:EABC WEBINAR ON THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 PANDEMIC ON THE TOURISM SECTOR IN THE EAC
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a decline in safaris expeditions\, cut-back operations in the hospitality industry including the closure of hotels & recreational centers\, loss of revenue for East African airlines and loss of jobs for the thousands employed by the sector. The breadth and scale on the impact of COVID-19 to the sector and directly affiliated industries has also resulted in the cancellation of (Meetings\, Incentives\, Conferencing & Exhibitions) MICE\, nationally\, regionally and worldwide. \nAccording to the World Tourism Organization\, EAC Partner States may potentially lose International Tourism Receipts at the tune of USD 5.4 Billion for the year 2020\, given the projected long-term closure of seaports and airports. \nIn view of the above\, the East African Business Council is desirous to engage with stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality sector in the region via an online webcast on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Tourism sector on 4th June 2020 at 14:00hrs -16:00hrs. The EAC Council of Ministers\, Senior Government Officials\, Industry Captains\, Sector Stakeholders and Development Partners have been invited to participate and jointly chart out recommendations and a recovery strategy for the short\, medium and long term; to ensure that EAC Partner States emerge stronger as the world progressively reopens for travel and business. \nPlease mobilize your members to join this online discussion on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the tourism sector in the EAC on Thursday 4th June 2020 via Microsoft Teams.
