Moshi, Tanzania – May 15, 2025: The East African Business Council (EABC), in partnership ITC, Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TANTRADE), conducted a national awareness training on the Tanzania Trade Information Portal (TANTRADE) in Tanzania.

Delivering remarks on behalf of Mr. Adrian Njau, Acting Executive Director of EABC, Mr. Frank Dafa, Manager – Trade in Goods, underscored the Portal as a vital tool for simplifying trade procedures and enhancing transparency in Tanzania’s import, export, and transit processes. He highlighted how the portal complements EABC’s efforts to create a more predictable and competitive trading environment across the region.

Mr. Dafa further emphasised the role of the MARKUP II programme implemented jointly with the International Trade Centre (ITC) in empowering stakeholders in key agricultural value chains such as coffee, avocado, and leather. He encouraged participants to embrace TIP and other digital trade solutions to improve compliance, boost market access, and enhance their competitiveness within the EAC and AfCFTA markets.

In his remarks, Mr. Petro Matulanya, representative from TANTRADE, explained the authority’s role as the host of the portal and its broader mandate to support trade facilitation in Tanzania. He encouraged participants to explore the portal at www.tradetanzania.go.tz and provide feedback to help improve its functionality.

Mr. Boniface Mariki, Regional Executive Director of TCCIA Kilimanjaro, underscored the importance of digital platforms, including E – Commerce tools, in expanding trade. He also emphasized the urgent need to eliminate non-tariff barriers (NTBs) that hinder cross-border trade.

Ms. Joyce Ndossi, Regional Executive Director Tanzania Women Chamber of Commerce (TWCC) Kilimanjaro, outlined TWCC’s initiatives to support women and Youth entrepreneurs in trade. She expressed appreciation to the organizers for delivering an impactful training and called for increased participation of women in digital trade platforms and regional trade initiatives.

However, during the training session, participants expressed concern over the limited accessibility of current trade regulatory procedures on the portal. They recommended that TANTRADE urgently update and align the procedures on the Tanzania Trade Information Portal to reflect accurate, user-friendly, and up-to-date regulatory processes.

The event reaffirmed the importance of inclusive, digital-led trade facilitation in unlocking Tanzania’s full export potential and enhancing intra-African trade.
