Zambia, 23rd January 2025:- East African Business Council Vice-Chair and Uganda Chapter Chair, Simon Kaheru, commended Movit Group of Companies for taking advantage of regional trading blocs to expand their presence on the continent as a homegrown African brand.

Visiting the Movit Zambia Distribution Centre and Warehouse in Lusaka today, Kaheru congratulated Movit Zambia Country Business Manager Jimson Birungi for extending the trading footprint of the Uganda-born cosmetics brand across Zambia over the last eight months.

“I have noticed Movit products on the shelves of the top supermarkets and retail outlets in Zambia and also seen them on the shelves of small and medium sized duukas, which makes me proud as a long-time user of Movit products, a Ugandan and an African,” he said.

“Movit’s success in East, Central and Southern Africa is proof that African brands can grow across the Continent if we use the same strategies. More importantly, though, you are proving that our regional trade blocs and economic communities on this Continent actually work, and that the AfCFTA will be successful if we build on our existing trade blocs,” he added.

Kaheru also commended Movit for being versatile and innovative in its approach to manufacturing and distribution while taking advantage of the EAC, SADC and COMESA trading blocs for different aspects of their business.

Kaheru was accompanied by Coca-Cola Beverages Zambia Ag. Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability Director, P’anji Banda, who discussed industrial issues of mutual interest to Movit and CCBZ.

Movit’s Jimson Birungi welcomed the comments and said Movit would continue its growth with consistency because the company had dedicated itself to producing high quality products that are both affordable and valuable.

“Our customers love our products from the time they first get to use them, and so our main challenge is growing our distribution networks so that we reach all our potential customers. Once anyone has a Movit product in their hands, they are customers for life,” he said.

The trading conditions that we deal with in this part of the world are improving steadily day-to-day so we are sure that our business can only grow in the years to come. We have set ourselves grand, ambitious targets for 2030 and believe that with organisations like the EABC, and the EAC, SADC and COMESA trading blocs, we will hit those targets,” he committed.

Movit is so far operational in Burundi, the DRC, Kenya, Malawi, South Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The company will be expanding further during 2025.
