CEO RoundTable on UN International Day of Zero Waste

The problems of pollution are not limited to the borders of a country as harmful effects extend beyond the borders of the originator of the pollution. According to the World Bank Report (2020), waste generation is rising. It is estimated that the world generates 2.24 billion tonnes of solid waste equivalent to a footprint of 0.79 kilograms per person per day. With rapid urbanization and population growth, annual waste generation is expected to increase by 73% from 2020 levels to 3.88 billion tonnes in 2050.

The EAC Secretariat is undertaking several initiatives on circular economy and strives to promote better coordination of private sector interventions and investment in circular economy in areas such as waste management.

In view of the above, EABC has planned to organize CEO RoundTable on 29th – 30th  March 2023 at Salinero Hotel-Moshi Kilimanjaro. The CEO RoundTable aims to promote Private Sector Investment in Circular Economy in a bid to achieve 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development Goals and commemorate UN International Day on Zero Waste.

The CEO roundtable meeting will be preceded by the following events:

  1. A public walk/marching with senior government officers and other stakeholders on 29th March 2023
  2. General cleaning to collect waste on streets on 29th March 2023
  3. Media campaign from 29th – 30th March 2023.

The series of events will bring together captains of industries, CEOs,  NGOs,  Development Partners, High-Level Government Officials and the general public to exchange experiences and success stories in developing and implementing waste management solutions and technologies, including innovative projects and programs.

The CEO RoundTable will create awareness about “Zero Waste” and promote sustainable production practices among industries and SMEs.
