East Africa is endowed with diverse natural resources including forests, water, minerals, fish, wildlife, and soils, among others. Natural capital management provides essential benefits for businesses and communities to improve their performance in environmental and social risk mitigation, resource efficiency, access to markets and financing, and improved reputation. Natural capital is a bridging concept connecting the language of science and nature with business values. The inclusion of corporations alongside governments in the design and implementation of a regional agreement for biodiversity could help coordinate and align incentives to support greater and more effective conservation.

In view of the above, the East African Business Council in partnership with Environmental Incentives (EI) and support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is organizing a Private Sector Virtual Roundtable on the Economics of Natural Capital in East Africa on Tuesday, 17 August 2021 at 2:30 PM – 3:40 PM EAT.
