The launch of AfCFTA is seen by the private sector across the continent as a huge opportunity to drive Africa from a low 15% intra-African trade to even 40%. The main objective of the AfCFTA is to create a single continental market for goods and services. To be fully implemented in 2030 the AfCFTA will create a single market with a collective GDP of USD3.4 trillion and 1.3 billion people.
In the East African Community (EAC) region, Rwanda and Kenya have started trading provisionally under the AfCFTA Guided Trade Initiative (GTI) by exporting to Ghana. The initiative among others aims to guide shipment through customs clearance, test and establish the trade, legal and environmental policy basis for intra-African trade, and also identify companies, goods, customs procedures and logistic processes necessary for effective trade. To enable the EAC private sector to take advantage of the opportunities presented by AfCFTA, EABC through support from GIZ- Support to East African Integration (SEAMPEC II) is steadfast in building the capacity of the private sector on AfCFTA Agreement and Protocol on Trade in Goods & its annexes.

In this regard, EABC in collaboration with Private Sector Foundation, Uganda Manufacturers Association and in partnership with GIZ-SEMPEAC is organizing 2-day Private Sector Sensitization Workshop on AfCFTA on 21st  -22nd March 2023, at Kabira Country Club in Kampala, Uganda.
