Thursday, May 22nd, 2025 – Arusha, Tanzania: Hon. Nancy K. Abisai, Member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA), paid a courtesy visit on 21st May 2025 to the East African Business Council (EABC) Secretariat and held discussions with Mr. Adrian Njau, Acting Executive Director of EABC.
The discussions focused on how the EAC private sector can play a more active role in addressing health challenges within the region. Hon. Abisai expressed her appreciation for the role of the private sector in driving economic growth, creating employment, and contributing to government revenue through taxes, which are vital for the delivery of public services.
She emphasized that, given the rising and evolving health challenges in the region, the private sector must take a more proactive role in promoting health, stating that “a healthy society is a wealthy society.”
Mr. Njau reiterated the EAC private sector’s commitment to improving the health sector in line with national, regional, and global commitments. He emphasized that EAC businesses are adhering to World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines on various health-related matters.
Both parties agreed on the importance of strengthening collaboration between EALA and EABC to support evidence-based policymaking that enhances the health and well-being of East African citizens.
