Arusha, Tanzania |12th March 2026: The East African Business Council (EABC) delegation participated in the 25th Ordinary Summit of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State, held on 7th March 2026, under the theme, “Deepening Integration for Improved Livelihoods of EAC Citizens.”
EABC congratulates H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda, on assuming the Chairmanship of the EAC and reaffirms its commitment to championing private-sector development as a catalyst for regional integration, trade expansion, and sustainable economic growth.
As the apex regional private sector body, EABC commends the Heads of State for key decisions set to strengthen the business and investment environment, including:
- Directive to eliminate all reported Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) by 30 June 2026, facilitating frictionless intra-EAC trade.
- Launch of the 7th EAC Development Strategy (2026/27–2030/31), providing a roadmap for accelerated regional economic transformation.
- Introduction of the EAC Customs Bond, enhancing trade facilitation and the seamless movement of goods across borders.
EABC also congratulates Ambassador Stephen Patrick Mbundi on his appointment as Secretary General of the EAC and looks forward to stronger collaboration with the Secretariat to advance private sector-led growth.
