Kampala, Uganda | 25 August 2026 — The East African Business Council (EABC) congratulates its member, Roofings Group, on the inauguration of Phase IV Level 2 of its Ultra-Modern Rolling Mill Complex in Namanve, Mukono District, by H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda & Chairperson of EAC Heads of State Summit.
The new investment marks another significant milestone in Uganda’s industrialisation journey, strengthening local manufacturing, value addition and the country’s capacity to produce higher-value steel products locally.
Roofings Group has achieved approximately 54% local value addition, while its turnover has grown to about UGX 1.2 trillion, with exports reaching approximately US$70 million. The latest expansion further reduces reliance on imported intermediate products and enhances domestic manufacturing capacity.
The investment forms part of a wider modern industrial complex comprising a cold rolling mill, edge-trimming line, galvanising line and colour-coating line, enabling Roofings to undertake further processing and produce higher-value products locally.
Speaking during the inauguration, President Museveni commended Roofings Group for its contribution to Uganda’s industrial transformation and local value addition. He also highlighted the importance of regional integration in creating a large and reliable market for East African producers, noting that stronger markets can support job creation and wealth generation.
Roofings Group Director, Mr. Oliver Lalani, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to the regional market, noting that East Africa’s growing population and expanding economy present significant opportunities for the steel industry. He also underscored the importance of regional integration in expanding markets and strengthening industrial production.
EABC congratulates Roofings Group on this important milestone and reaffirms its commitment to supporting a more integrated and competitive East African market that enables businesses to scale, invest and create jobs across the region.
