The East African Business Council (EABC) actively participated in the Circular Packaging Conference organized by the Kenya Extended Producer Organization (KEPRO). This annual conference, conducted in collaboration with key partners such as the Confederation of Danish Industries (DI), DOW, and Silafrica, engaged various stakeholders, including government representatives—especially the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), exhibitors, essential actors in waste management/circular economy along the value chain, manufacturers, and business membership organizations.

During the Panel Session on Challenges in Sustainable Waste Management, Mr. Frank Dafa, a Technical Expert representing the East African Business Council (EABC), outlined crucial challenges related to sustainable packaging, emphasizing the investment and compliance costs for businesses aiming to meet sustainable packaging requirements. Mr. Dafa urged stakeholders to establish a regional framework for circular economy and sustainable waste management.

The Conference encompassed multiple Panel Sessions throughout the day, each delving deeper into the subject matter. The discussions led to key resolutions proposed by participants during the conference, which included:

◼️Establishing an engagement framework (Architecturing the team at the regional level)
◼️Advocating for standardization and harmonization of measures and procedures
◼️Implementing measures to scale up circularity
◼️Fostering enhanced collaborative efforts and approaches
◼️Setting key sustainability and circularity milestones.
