The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted global and regional value chains impacting business operations and availed new emerging investment opportunities. In the first half of 2020 global foreign direct investment (FDI) flows fell by 49% and is expected to contract by 30-40% for the full year 2020 (UNCTAD). Investment facilitation and aftercare services by investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs) are critical towards attracting Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) and Cross Border Investments (CBIs) for economic rebound and growth in the East African Community.
