Kigali, Rwanda 6th October 2025: – The East African Business Council (EABC), in partnership with GIZ under the LIFTED Project, organized a Capacity Building Training Workshop on Export of Services from 6th to 7th October 2025 at the Crown Conference Hall in Kigali, Rwanda.
The training brought together over 45 participants from key service sectors such as Tourism, ICT, Logistics and Transport, Auditing, Insurance, and financial services. Among them were 18 women and 26 men from companies with strong export potential.
The presentations were delivered in two modules over the two days, focusing on understanding trade in services, export procedures, compliance requirements, and strategies to enhance competitiveness and market access in the East African Community (EAC) and under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Mr. Denis Karera, Chairperson of EABC , opened the event and highlighted the importance of the services sector in driving regional growth. He noted that despite great potential, service providers face challenges such as fragmented regulations, limited recognition of qualifications, and high trade costs. He called for harmonized policies, better support for women and youth, and stronger data systems to guide trade decisions.
The sessions were led by Mr. Mabala Moses, International Trade Consultant , who explained key concepts, export procedures, and regulations governing trade in services. Participants learned about the four modes of service supply cross border supply, consumption abroad, commercial presence, and movement of persons and discussed how to improve competitiveness.
During the practical sessions, participants were divided into groups according to their service sectors, where they discussed export procedures, shared experiences, and identified challenges and opportunities in cross-border trade. These interactive discussions provided valuable insights into improving efficiency, harmonizing regulations, and building stronger networks among service providers across the region.
Mr. Geoffrey Kamanzi, appreciated the participants for their strong interest, active engagement, and cooperation throughout the two-day workshop. He commended their dedication and contributions, which made the training a great success.
