  1. Roles and Responsibilities
The Communication and Market Intelligence will support EABC communication, market intelligence, advocacy, business development services, membership engagement, and stakeholder coordination to ensure effective implementation and visibility. Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and implement the EABC’s and Project specific communication and visibility plans.
  • Coordinate communication, publicity, and market intelligence activities across project components, membership and policy advocacy activities
  • Collect, organize, and prepare content and materials for digital platforms, trainings, campaigns, and events.
  • Develop and disseminate newsletters, press releases, blogs, policy briefs, advocacy materials, and fact sheets.
  • Coordination of media interviews, conferences, and journalist outreach.
  • Maintain ongoing communication members, and stakeholders on trade and investment updates.
  • Lead communication monitoring, tracking, and reporting on stakeholder feedback.
  • Develop concept notes on EABC’s flagship events
  • Organize trainings and public-private dialogues
  • Prepare reports and documentation of key events meeting/workshops.
  • Roll out Business Development Services by coordinating capacity-building activities, facilitating member engagement, and assisting in the promotion of member services and benefits.
  • Lead membership engagement, recruitment, retention and value adding services
  • Report and Perform any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Project Coordinator.

  1. Qualifications and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Communication Studies, Economics, International Relations, Marketing, or related field.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in communications, business development, event management, or related areas.
  • Proven expertise in using CRM platforms, designing communication materials, and managing campaigns and digital platforms (websites and social media).
  • Strong familiarity with economic and business issues, trade analysis, and market intelligence systems.
  • Experience working on private sector development projects is highly desirable.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media tools.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required; knowledge of French and Kiswahili is an added advantage.

  1. OBJECTIVE OF THE ASSIGNMENT

The Manager – Trade in Goods and Services will lead EABC’s policy and advocacy component, including research and analysis on the implementation of regional commitments, organizing public-private dialogues with the EAC Secretariat and governments, developing EABC’s Annual Policy Advocacy Agenda, building member capacity on regional and international trade agreements, and providing policy advice on trade and investment matters to members.

Policy and Advocacy Leadership

2.0 SCOPE OF WORK

The National Liaison Officer (NLO) will focus on all member-related matters in the respective Partner State. The role encompasses more than administrative duties, including recruiting and retaining members, resource mobilization, organizing membership-related events, addressing members’ policy and trade issues, and building relationships with EABC stakeholders and partners.  

2.1 KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare a list of prospective companies, associations, and government agencies for EABC membership.
  2. Compile a list of key partner organizations and trade and investment events in South Sudan.
  3. Recruit at least seven (7) new members per quarter, totaling fourteen (14) members by the end of the contract.
  4. Generate a minimum of USD 30,000 within six months.
  5. Follow up and collect membership subscription fees at the national level and report to EABC.
  6. Visit EABC members, collect key trade policy issues affecting them, and submit a report to EABC.
  7. Conduct interviews with members who have withdrawn from EABC and provide a report to the Executive Director.
  8. Provide a weekly report for the membership briefing, submitted by Thursday, detailing:
    • Members visited
    • Activities carried out
    • Key issues identified
    • Changes in key contact persons within visited organizations
  9. Mobilize sponsorships and organize membership value-adding events/services in the country.
  10. Market EABC flagship events to mobilize members for participation and sponsorship.
  11. Strategize and invite businesses to EABC activities (e.g., training sessions in South Sudan) and follow up with attendees to join EABC membership.
  12. Deliver EABC documents (letters, magazines, invoices, etc.) to members and stakeholders.

3.0 TIMELINE

The assignment will last six months, renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

5.0 QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Qualifications:
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, Economics, or a relevant field from a recognized institution of higher learning.
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in business administration, sales, marketing, or engaging with public, private, and regional integration settings.
Communication and Networking:

Background

The East African Business Council (EABC) established the East African Women in Business Platform (EAWiBP) in 2011.  The platform was officially launched in May 2012 by the East African Community (EAC) Secretary-General. Drawing its mandate from the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, (and particularly Article 121 and 122, and the 4th EAC Development Strategy for 2011 to 2016, which outline the commitment of the EAC in enhancing women’s socio-economic status and their role in business).

As the pioneer EAC regional platform for women in business, EAWiBP brings together national apex bodies / associations / networks of businesswomen (including associations of women formal and informal cross-border traders); professional women associations; and regional civil society organizations’ working to promote businesswomen and women’s socio-economic advancement. EAWiBP continues to link and connect women entrepreneurs to markets opportunities, information, skills, capital and technology as well as influence policy reforms towards a favorable business environment that takes into consideration the needs and priorities of businesswomen especially access to resources (e.g. finance / credit) and access to opportunities (e.g. information on business / trade / investment opportunities). The Platform’s main two objectives are: Increased participation of women in intra-regional trade in EAC and Enabling environment for trade for women SMEs in the EAC.

General Responsibilities.

The activities will span from advocacy for gender and women in trade issues, trade facilitation and supporting the building of EAWIBPs institutional capacity. The assistant will support the Platform with fundraising and communication and ensuring that the organization takes advantage of the synergies that enhance the effectiveness of the Platform Programmes.

The assistant will work closely with diverse stakeholders to roll-out and implement specific activities in the annual work plan for the Platform in accordance with EAWiBP’s contractual obligations and internal policies and procedures under EABC. This includes ensuring quality reports for assigned projects are done on a timely basis meeting the necessary standard and responding to the integrated work plan.

Main Duties include:

  1. Support the Platform in the implementation of its advocacy agenda on the emerging gender/trade issues;
  2. Synthesize and publish key findings of EAWIBPs policy engagements
  3. Support all activities aimed at increasing access to market and trade-related services for targeted women SMEs and ensuring Women SMEs are equipped with knowledge and skills to engage in regional trade;
  4. Generation of the information displayed on the EAWiBP website;
  5. Represent EAWiBP in relevant external meetings/events

Qualifications and Experience
