Tuesday, 9th June 2026: The East African Business Council (EABC) Executive Director, Mr. Ahmed Farah, paid a courtesy visit to the Kenya Consulate in Arusha.
In his remarks, H.E. Amb. Mohamed R. Ruwange, Consul General of the Republic of Kenya in Arusha, reiterated the Government of Kenya’s commitment to partnering with the private sector to advance the East African Community (EAC) integration agenda by fostering trade, business linkages, and regional synergies.
He lauded the 25th EAC Heads of State Summit for their bold commitment and directives to drive economic growth and prosperity, calling for the elimination of barriers to facilitate the free movement of goods, services, capital, and persons across the region. H.E. Amb. Mohamed also commended EABC for championing regional trade, investment and commercial ties.
On his part, Mr. Farah underscored that the EAC Treaty is both market-driven and people-centred. He reaffirmed EABC’s commitment to advancing private sector advocacy aimed at reducing barriers that impede the free movement of goods and services, in line with the EAC Heads of State vision of increasing intra-EAC trade from the current 12.3% (EAC Quarterly Statistics Bulletin October-December 2025) to 40% by 2030.
He noted that EABC is monitoring and reporting NTBs and will launch an online NTB dashboard to improve the regional business environment.
Mr. Farah further highlighted the upcoming East Africa CEO and Investment Forum, scheduled for 17th & 18th September 2026 in Kenya, which will convene top business leaders from across the region and beyond to engage in deal-making, business matchmaking, and discuss and launch the EABC Trade and Investment Barometer Report.
H.E. Amb. Mohamed called for collaboration with EABC to identify and address challenges affecting cross border trade especially at Namanga border.
The visit forms part of EABC’s planned engagements with Consulates of EAC Partner States based in Arusha. EABC will work closely with EAC Consulates and establish a working group to strengthen intra-EAC trade and investment ties.
The meeting included Ms. Rolyne Kendi Mworia, Second Secretary, and Mr. Richard Kinyanyi, Counsellor, Economic Affairs at the Kenya Consulate in Arusha, as well as Mr. Patrick Moshi, Ms. Hidaya Mkwizu, and Mr. Amoniche Mlelwa from the East African Business Council.
